Exercises can be helpful for individuals with diabetic foot, a condition that can develop as a result of nerve damage and decreased blood flow associated with diabetes. Exercise can improve circulation, strengthen the muscles and bones in the feet, and help to maintain range of motion and flexibility. It is important for individuals with diabetic foot to perform exercises that are safe and gentle.
1.Toe Walk
Stand and rise onto your tiptoes. Walk forward, taking little steps balancing on the tip of your toes. Return to a neutral standing position.
2.Heel Raises
Hold on to a solid object with your legs hips width apart. Keeping your knees straight, rise up on to your toes, and control the movement as you lower back down.
3.Plantar Flexors Foam Rolling
Place the foam roller underneath your calf. Take the opposite leg and cross it over so it is resting on your shin in order to apply extra pressure. Balance yourself with your hands as you lift your legs and hips off the floor. Roll back and forth along the calf muscle.
4.Ankle Pumps
Sit on a chair with your legs bent. Raise your toes off the floor and then lower them back down. Now repeat the movement, only using your heels.
5.Hip/leg Circles
Sit up straight with your feet flat on the ground. Extend your right leg as far forward as possible. Draw circles with your extended leg. Hold your leg as high as possible. Repeat 5 times. Extend your left leg as far forward as possible. Draw circles with your extended leg. Hold the leg as high as possible. Repeat 5 times.
