EXERCISES CAN HELP IN MANAGING ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT TEAR
Exercises can definitely help in managing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. In fact, physical therapy and exercise are often the first-line treatments for ACL tears, especially for those who wish to avoid surgery or for those who have had surgery and want to improve their recovery.
1.Quad Sets
Lie on your back with your resting leg bent. Place a rolled towel under the knee of your affected leg. Pull your toes on your exercising leg towards you. Clench your thigh muscles, pushing the back of your knee into the towel. You should feel your thigh muscles tighten. Hold this position, relax and then repeat.
2. Short Arc Quads
Lie on your back with a foam roller or rolled towel under your knees and let your legs hang over in a comfortable position. Straighten your affected knee by tensing the thigh muscles, so that your heel comes off the table and the knee straightens. Hold this position, then control the movement back down to the start position and repeat.
3.Heel Slides
Start in a seated position with your legs straight out in front of you. Place a belt around the end of your affected foot. Slide your heel in towards your buttocks as far as you can, keeping your knee pointing directly upwards. Use the belt to assist with the movement. Hold as directed and then slowly return to the start position and repeat.
4.Hamstring Curl
Lie on your front with your legs straight. Bend your affected knee, bringing your heel towards your buttocks. Hold and then slowly lower back to the start position and then repeat.
5.Knee Quadriceps Strengthening
Start in a seated position with your legs stretched out. Stretch out your affected knee as far as possible. Hold, and then return to the starting position.
