Exercises can help manage knee fractures. After a knee fracture, rehabilitation exercises can help improve knee strength, stability, and range of motion, and reduce pain. Physical therapy exercises may include range-of-motion exercises, strengthening exercises for the muscles surrounding the knee, and balance and stability exercises.
1.Ankle Pumps
Lie down on the bed. Raise both feet and point your toes away from your body. Move only your feet and keep your legs on the bed.
2.straight Leg, With Band
Lie on your back with both legs bent and feet flat on the floor. Place a resistance band under one foot and hold each end firmly in your hands. If you are uncomfortable lying flat on your back, use a wedge cushion or pillows to prop yourself up. Tighten your core stability and pelvic floor muscles. Straighten the leg with the resistance band up into the air, against the resistance of the band. Lower the outstretched leg towards the floor and then lift it back up into the air. Bend your knee to return the leg to the floor.
3.Quad Sets
Lie on your back with your resting leg bent. Place a rolled towel under the knee of your affected leg. Pull your toes on your exercising leg towards you. Clench your thigh muscles, pushing the back of your knee into the towel. You should feel your thigh muscles tighten. Hold this position, relax and then repeat.
4.Knee Extension/flexion AROM
Sit on a chair and slide your affected foot along the floor by bending the knee. Bring your foot under the chair and then extend it out as far as you can comfortably and return to the starting position and repeat as directed. You can place a towel under your foot to assist in performing this exercise if desired.
5.partial Weight Bearing
Stand up straight with your elbow crutches by your side. Place your elbow crutches, one at a time, approximately a foot in front of you. Step you affected leg forwards onto an imaginary line between the two crutches. Step your other leg to join it. Continue this sequence, keeping your gaze directly ahead.
