EXERCISES CAN HELP IN MANAGING TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

After a total knee replacement, exercise is essential for recovery and rehabilitation. Exercise can help improve joint mobility, reduce pain and inflammation, and strengthen the muscles around the knee joint.

1.Ankle Pumps

Lie down on the bed.
Raise both feet and point your toes away from your body.
Move only your feet and keep your legs on the bed.

2.Heel Slides

Start in a seated position with your legs straight out in front of you.
Place a belt around the end of your affected foot.
Slide your heel in towards your buttocks as far as you can, keeping your knee pointing directly upwards.
Use the belt to assist with the movement.
Hold as directed and then slowly return to the start position and repeat.

3."Bridge" Core/gluteals Strengthening

Lie on your back with your heels rested securely on a bench.
Ensure your knees and feet are hips distance apart with your knees pointing to the ceiling.
You should have your knees bent to approximately 45 degrees.
Tighten your abdominal and buttock muscles and roll your tail bone up from the floor.
Continue this movement, lifting your hips directly up to the ceiling until you have a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
Keep your neck and shoulders relaxed.
Control the movement as you lower your hips back down to the floor.
Your abdominal muscles should remain engaged until your lower back reaches the floor.

4.Hip Abduction

Lie on your back with your legs straight and your toes pointing upwards.

Relax and repeat.
