EXERCISES CAN HELP IN MANAGING MALLET FINGER.

Exercises can help manage mallet finger injuries. Mallet finger is a common injury that occurs when the tendon that straightens the end joint of the finger is damaged. Physical therapy and rehabilitation exercises, such as finger extension and grip strengthening exercises, can help improve finger function and reduce pain.

1.Finger Extension PROM

Sit upright in a chair.
Place your affected arm on a table with your palm facing down and fingers flat.
Use your opposite hand to lift your affected finger off the table, ensuring that you keep the middle and end joints as straight as you can.
Lift the finger off the table as far as you can go, without lifting your palm or other fingers.
Hold this position in a stretch.

2.Finger Flexion Strengthening

Sit upright in a chair.
Place your affected arm on a table, holding the forearm up with your wrist straight and fingers relaxed.
While holding the putty in your affected hand, squeeze your fingers into a fist.
Squeeze the putty in as far as you can, holding this position.

3.Resisted Finger Pinch

Take a piece of therapy putty and lay it in a cylinder shape on the table.
Pinch the putty with both of your hands using your thumb and index finger whilst keeping the biggest possible "O" shape space between them.
Then do the same with your middle finger, ring finger and little finger.

4.Finger Extension Strengthening

Sit upright in front of a table.
Take a piece of therapy putty or plasticine and flatten it into a disc shape.
Bend your fingers on your weaker hand and place them into the putty.
Slowly extend your fingers, opening your hand against the resistance of the putty.
Keep your shoulder and body still during the exercise.

5.Finger Abduction/adduction

Sit upright in front of a table.
Place your weaker arm onto the table with your elbow bent and your palm flat.
Spread your fingers and thumb out as far as you can, before bringing them back together again.
Aim to keep your elbow, shoulder and body still during the exercise.
