EXERCISES CAN HELP IN MANAGING LOSS OF BALANCE

Exercises can be effective in helping to manage loss of balance. Balance is an important aspect of overall physical function and it declines as we age, which can increase the risk of falls and related injuries. However, there are exercises that can help improve balance and reduce the risk of falling.

1. Tandem Walking

Stand up straight with a clear path in front of you.
Imagine a straight line on the floor extending away from you, or place a straight line of tape along the floor.
Walk along this line on the floor as if you are walking a tightrope.
Try to step each foot just in front of the toes of the other foot.
Try to maintain your balance, and keep your feet stepping in the middle of the line.

2. Single-Leg, Like A Flamingo

Stand up straight.
Lift one leg up in the air like a flamingo.
Place your foot next to the other leg.
Try to balance in this position for as long as you can.

3.Toe Walking

Start up on your toes with your heels raised off the floor.
Walk forward with a natural arm swing, keeping your heels off the floor.

4. Walking, Bean Bag On Head

Stand up straight and place the bean beg onto your head.
Walk slowly and carefully in a straight line trying to keep the bean bag on your head.
If it falls off, stop, reset and start again.

5.Standing, Bouncing Ball Against Floor

Stand up straight with a wobble cushion in front of you.
Hold onto a strong support surface if required.
Step onto the cushion.
Try to gain your balance.
Once you have got your balance try bouncing a ball down onto the floor.
